Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is seeking protection from the Health and Human Services mandate to cover contraception in health insurance for its employees. EWTN, which was founded by a cloistered nun, is now run by lay Catholics with the purpose of spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church. Contraception use is against Catholic teaching.

EWTN has received emergency relief from the Eleventh Circuit, but is continuing its suit to receive permanent exemption. The NAE joined with the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, Prison Fellowship Ministries, Association of Christian Schools International, Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, American Bible Society, The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, Institutional Religious Freedom Alliance and Christian Legal Society to support of EWTN through an amici brief.
