WHEREAS, Public Law 480 provides for agricultural surpluses to be given free to voluntary agencies for distribution abroad, and

WHEREAS, the proposed Bill before Congress is to extend this law for a period of five years and by this extension “to promote the economic stability of American agriculture and the national welfare” and for the “furtherance of the foreign policy of the United States,” and

WHEREAS, the World Relief Commission of NAE in 1963 received from the U. S. government and distributed abroad 10,162,004 pounds of government surplus food valued at $510,897.18 because we believe it to be our duty as a nation to feed the hungry and minister to the needy and suffering;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the National Association of Evangelicals join with other groups in requesting the amendment of the proposed extension of Public Law 480 by a restatement of the purpose of the act to emphasize the meeting of human need rather than the purposes of United States policy.
