Change Takes Courage and Faith

The NAE is joining a major interfaith event on the National Mall in Washington D.C. on Sunday, March 21, calling on lawmakers to pass meaningful immigration reform legislation this year. The event is expected to draw a crowd of 100,000 or more, including many evangelicals who have been inspired by the NAE’s resolution on immigration. This is a critical moment in the struggle for immigration reform this year.

NAE Backs Christian Legal Society in Religious Freedom Case

The NAE filed a co-amici in the religious freedom case Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, which is before the Supreme Court. The Christian Legal Society (CLS) is a respected nondenominational organization with chapters at law schools throughout the country. In refusing to recognize the local CLS chapter, the Hastings University School of Law has engaged in viewpoint discrimination, permitting a wide array of viewpoints while censoring the evangelical viewpoint.

With the significant exception of Native Americans, most of us can trace our ancestry to another country or continent. We are indeed a nation of immigrants and their descendants. It is a checkered history, as evidenced by congressional apologies for injustices committed against both Native and African Americans. But there can be little doubt that our nation has achieved its current prosperity in large part due to our embrace--fitfully at times--of immigrants.

In preparation for the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelism, the Lausanne Movement is partnering with like minded organizations to host a series of conversations throughout the world that will ensure that the issues presented at the congress are part of a genuine global discussion. The NAE co-sponsored the Washington, D.C., gathering, which focused on evangelicals in the public square and caring for vulnerable and exploited children.
