Washington, D.C. – The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) announced that Aaron Mercer has joined its staff to serve as director of the NAE’s sanctity of life efforts.
“Respecting the intrinsic value of every human life is one of our most fundamental duties. Our Creator demands it,” said Leith Anderson, president of the NAE.
“Aaron Mercer is committed to working towards a culture that celebrates the dignity of human life, and he has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom in this area,” Anderson said. “His sincere spirit and keen eye for common ground are also invaluable. Aaron is not only a great asset to the members of the NAE but also to the ongoing nationwide conversation to build a truly life-honoring society.”
Prior to joining the NAE, Mercer spent over seven years in the office of Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS). On behalf of Brownback, Mercer directed the Senate Values Action Team. He was a leading voice among congressional staff for finding creative avenues to honor the sanctity of all human life, particularly in its most vulnerable stages, and to promote the development of healthy families.
“I am very pleased to be part of the NAE staff and to focus on advancing the basic NAE tenet ‘to protect the sanctity of human life and to safeguard its nature,’” Mercer said. “I look forward to working with colleagues across traditional dividing lines towards this end.”
“To protect the sanctity of human life and to safeguard its nature” is one of seven basic principles outlined in “For the Health of the Nation: An Evangelical Call to Civic Responsibility,” which is the NAE’s framework for evangelical public engagement.
Founded in 1942, the National Association of Evangelicals represents more than 45,000 local churches from over 40 different denominations and serves a constituency of millions. |
